A Day at the Beach

Since we are on the Oregon Coast, I bet you all thought I was going to post about the pristine Pacific Ocean, but no, that will be later, for now.........

Ethan turned 9 years old this past Monday. He wanted to go to the beach for his birthday, so, last Friday we went to Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake with Aaron's brother Mark and his family.

It may look tranquil, but it appears to be a farce. The water is so salty the only organism that can exist in it is the Brine Shrimp. This is a tiny little fish that you can barely see with your naked eye. Well, there are thousands of them that have died on the beach so, the smell of dead fish is stifling. There are also thousands of nats along the beach. Vanessa enjoyed walking along the waters edge watching the black cloud of nats fly out of her way. She also enjoyed playing in the sand and dirty water with Savanah. The smell did not seem to bother the kids as much as the adults.

There are buffalo on the island, however, this is the only buffalo that we found.

We had a nice picnic with Mark & Brenda. All in all, it was a nice day but, our first visit to Antelope Island was enough to be our last.
