Fun Run

Some of you know that I HATE fundraisers. I hate the idea of manipulating friends, family, and neighbors into buying things to raise money for schools or clubs. When the boys were on the chess team we would write out a check for "would be" profit because we refused to sell things. That's why I was so happy when the boy's elementary school was having a Fun Run as a fundraiser. (I guess I'm not the only one that hates direct sales fundraising). I like the idea of promoting healthy lifestyles and the fact that the entire family can be involved. What a great idea!I signed the whole family up for the 1 mile run. The boys have been training at school during PE. We told them to find us at the finish line. Esteban finished 1st in his division and 4th overall. Ethan and AJ both had strong finishes. Aaron pushed Vanessa in a stroller. He said she kept yelling, "Faster, daddy, faster!" It must have paid off because he finished 1st in his division as well. I was with Savanah in the back she would run 10 feet then walk 100 feet. We were on track to finish last in both of our divisions. We saw Aaron finish when we still had another block to go. Savanah told me she was "out of gas" so we just finished there.
The kids enjoyed the orange slices and the idea that they finished the race. I enjoyed that we all got some exercise and we didn't have to sale anything in the process.

Yeah, that is a great idea! I think that it borders on criminal for companies to send home materials for the students to sell. I get so frustrated.

Although we didn't go, the school provided a spagetti dinner the night before the race where local businesses donated most of the food. The school's newsletter today reported earning over $5000 between the two events.

My favorite part is that it really was a "fun" run for the whole family while earning money for a good cause.
