Kid Engineers

When I was growing up, we often built "forts" using furniture and blankets. My brother, Austin, was the master builder. We would always try to "help" him build it. There is a challenge in making the fort as big and as dark as possible. It is also difficult to make the blankets sturdy enough that they can withstand movement underneath. Nothing can compare to a good hideout. I believe kids need to learn how to build and manipulate their environment. It is an important part of childhood.

The next generation continues the tradition.

This fort was built by Esteban in our Texas room. He reluctantly allows the others to play in it. I'm sure Austin was just as frustrated with his little sisters (myself included) as Esteban is with his younger siblings. Learning to deal with frustrations is another important part of childhood.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Esteban as an Architect or Engineer. Austin went into law enforcement. That would be okay too.

I think this is part of everyone's childhood. I used to do a fort with my twin sister (Leonor), and now Micah and Jonah love making a room with the chairs to hold the blankets, sleeping bags, and big huge boxes too. It's so fun for them, and it makes them feel so important that they were able to build something on their own. Have a fun summer!!!!!!!

I think it will be a fun summer. I have the feeling my house will constantly be under "construction". Esteban with his projects and me with mine. (I'm still working on repainting my kitchen.)
