We Are Not Amish

One of the football players was giving Ethan a hard time the other day about being Amish. Ethan took it good-heartedly and simply said, "No, we are not Amish. It's not like my mom is home churning butter every morning."
Well..... turns out that very day, I was in a local consignment store and came across a real butter churn! I was looking for some sort of large vase for an empty corner in our house. This was perfect! The ultimate example of form and function. Of course I don't know how to make butter, but you can research anything on the internet. I was giddy with excitement!
Ethan was not as excited. From now on, if the kid gives him a hard time, Ethan will know in the back of his mind that his mother really is the proud owner of a butter churn.

This was also the day that Este invited a friend over to study together, a girl in fact. While he was showing her around the house he asked what that was in the corner. I was more than happy to show off my newly purchased butter churn. Her reaction was closer to Ethan's than to mine.

The butter churn was the topic of conversation for the rest of the night. We laughed and laughed about it. (That makes the butter churn even more worth the purchase.) I'm pretty sure the poor neighbor girl thought we were not only Amish, but crazy. However, she'll be so happy when I take her some freshly made butter that she'll forgive all the craziness. Now, I just need to find access to a cow......
