Waterfalls & Bridges

I'm still not finished with my vacation. I'm just not ready to face reality yet.

The northwest has numerous rivers, which provide for some great adventure.

We decide to take a little side trip to the Silver Falls State Park near Silverton, Oregon. It was farther and took longer than we thought it would, but well worth the trip. We were able to go on a short hike to a 178 foot waterfall. The boys were aching to go on a hike.

The trail went behind the falls.

The kids were excited to discover a big cave behind the falls. On our return home, we took the Historic Columbia River Highway Scenic Byway, which really means that it took an extra 2 hours to drive the same distance as it would have to stay on the interstate and drive 30 minutes. We stopped at the Multnomah Falls. This waterfall is 620 feet tall, and is the 2nd tallest year-round waterfall in the nation (a little tidbit of information for you). Another short hike took us up to a bridge half-way up the falls.

Have you ever returned from vacation and realized that you took horrible pictures? Those pics of Multnomah Falls do not do it justice. You all might have to stop by there sometime.

We saw the exit for "Bridge of the Gods" over the Columbia River and had to take it. We paid the toll to cross the bridge into Washington, just to turn around and go right back. The kids loved it!

Near Twin Falls, Idaho we stopped to look at the Hansen Bridge over the Snake River. It is amazing. I still wonder how they build these things. The sad thing is that my cousin lives nearby, but I didn't take any numbers to contact her. Next time I'll have to be more organized when I'm packing.

Thanks for sharing. I think that I'd like to go these places in a future trip to Oregon. Some of them we won't have time to see this trip. It is great to hear about new places.

I'm happy to know you enjoyed the weeks and weeks of our vacation pics. We'll have to compare notes when you get back.
