If you ask the kids what they liked most about our trip, they would say "Crater Lake". They have this fascination with volcanoes. While at the Mt. Saint Helen's visitor center, we saw a display that compared the eruption of it to Mount Mazama. The eruption of Mt. Mazama was 160 times bigger than Mt. Saint Helens. Ethan was interested to know where Mt. Mazama was, well, come to find out, it was the volcano that created Crater Lake. This is a picture of Wizard Island (maybe this national park isn't just for muggles).

The beauty is breathtaking. Crater Lake is one of the deepest lakes in the world. The water is an intense blue color and is some of the world's purest water. There is only one place where you can actually get to the lake. It is a difficult hike so we'll have to return in a few years. We took a short, moderate hike. Along the hike we found some snow and of course had a snowball fight.

On the other side of the lake, we saw a rock formation called "Phantom Ship". We had just seen Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest, so the boys were excited about seeing the Black Pearl.

Now, you can see why Crater Lake is on the Oregon state quarter, one of the most popular national parks, and the highlight of our trip.
