Feeling Sick

Monday morning, Ethan and I woke up not feeling well. There is a stomach bug going around. I think we both caught it. Ethan's teachers did a good job of putting the fear of death and pain in him if he missed a day of school. He went to school and of course, I had to pick him up later, only after the science class he was most worried about.
I spent the day on the couch reading. By the end of the day, after the girls had free reign over the house, it was a disaster. Aaron is on a business trip to Dallas so, he couldn't help out. I don't know what made me feel worse, the nausea or looking at this....
Every night after scripture study, each of us say something that we are grateful for. That night Esteban said," I'm thankful for parents. Dad is gone. Mom is sick. This is what our house would be like without them." AJ's jaw dropped at the thought.

It is so nice to be appreciated.

Mr. Pokey

I'm still recovering from the pneumonia. The fatigue is the hardest thing to deal with. I recently taught Vanessa how to point and click the mouse so she could entertain herself on the computer and I could stay on the couch. She has to use both hands, one to move the mouse and the other to click. She loves her little preschool games and I love the much needed rest. We finally sold our Suburban. Savanah was quite upset. See, we would let them eat in the Suburban and we won't let them eat in our new van. She asked,"Why can't we sell the van instead?" Well, because it is newer, has less miles on it, and gas prices are horrendous. Anyway, we spent the money on a new computer, yeah! It is sorely needed now the all the kids spend time on the computer. The other day, Aaron and I were setting up the new computer in our study. Our study is over 100 years old and has hard wood floors. There is one little place where the wood changes directions. Savanah was sitting in that particular area playing. She slid across it, and since she was wearing a princess gown, she got a sliver in her bottom. We couldn't see the sliver because it broke off but, we could feel it inside. We knew the sliver was big and deep.

I took her to the doctor's office where he had to literally dig it out. It was even bigger than any of us expected. I had to hold her in my arms while she was on the procedure table. It was a traumatizing experience for both of us. They gave Savanah a teddy bear since she had to get two shots and 3 stitches. They also gave her the sliver in a specimen cup and syringe. She takes her bear and her cup every where we go now.
She named the sliver Mr. Pokey. It really is big enough that it should be named!
She can't bath for a week, so she took her first shower and really liked it. After helping her wash her hair, I was just as soaked as if I had taken a shower. I have to help her go to the bathroom which has reminded me how grateful I am that all my kids are potty trained. She is on antibiotics to ward off infection and we have to monitor the wound carefully as there is no way to tell if Mr. Pokey splintered off inside.(So far so good.) Luckily, she has no activity restrictions, in fact, she played a soccer day the next day. I'm grateful that she is doing well, however, I'm not grateful that Mr. Pokey joined our family.

Medicine

I haven't posted on my blog for a while because I have been sick the past few days. I spent a lot of time in bed or on the couch. Vanessa was kind enough to make me breakfast in bed one day. I was so thankful!I think the kids have been quite happy that the mom is incapacitated. They have been able to play the computer, watch movies, and play video games as much as they wanted (I think part of them hopes I don't recover quickly). Vanessa has had full reign over the house which means her toys were all over the living room and kitchen. There was a tea party set up in the bath tub.

Yesterday, AJ and I were both diagnosed with pneumonia. Yep, pneumonia. Neither one of us are bad enough to be hospitalized which I am grateful for. We are both on high powered antibiotics and are hoping to fully recover in the next couple of days because Lauren's wedding is this Saturday. Esteban was worried about missing a soccer game so he wore a surgical mask all afternoon. (He ducked out of the room for some reason when I showed up with my camera.) Aaron caught an early flight home from his business trip. Then he stayed home from work to take care of us. He made the kids clean the house (With Ethan you would think he had been sentenced to fifty year manual labor in prison camp. He now hopes I recover quickly.)

Aaron made a drug run to the local pharmacy returning with all of our medications. He also bought me the second book in a series I have started recently. I read it in 24 hours. There's something about being bed ridden that makes it easier to finish a book. Anyway I hope we are on the mend. The fact that I'm writing a post for the blog is a good sign. I just hope it makes sense, well, as much sense as I normally make.

Sick Days

I just realized anyone who checked my blog for the past few days, has been greeted by the picture of my messy house. I should have put the picture of my clean house first. I guess in the future I need to plan my leave of absence better. This time it wasn't planned.

On Saturday, Esteban, AJ, Savanah, and I went to my parents home to help them with a few things. I planted tulips and daffodils. I have to plant the bulbs in the fall so they grow in the spring. These are my favorite flowers and since I don't have a house of my own, I'm using my mom's. Esteban and AJ were going up to the property my parents own in the mountains with my dad to burn some wood they had cleared this summer. Again, this is something that has to be done in the fall when the foliage is dead and wet and less likely to start a forest fire. When we walked into their house Esteban lost his breakfast on the floor. Therefore, AJ was able to spend some rare one-on-one time with Grandpa in the mountains.

Sunday morning the whole family woke up sick. The girls and I have been sharing a cold all week. We were constantly coughing and sneezing. The boys, Aaron, and I were all nauseated. I don't know why I had to suffer with both groups. I guess that is part of being the mom. So, we all stayed home from church. We had a movie marathon, watching movie after movie.

Esteban & Ethan stayed home from school yesterday. Than last night, Vanessa was awake for 4 hour in the middle of the night. Needless to say, neither Aaron & I received much sleep either. I realized there is no such thing as a "sick day" when you are the mom.
