Name Change

When I was a little girl, I didn't like my name. I wanted to be named Natasha. I thought that was the most wonderful name in the world.

It came as no surprise to me when Savanah asked me the other day, "Why did you name me Sawanah?" (that's how she pronounces her name). I told her we thought it was a beautiful name for a beautiful girl. She told me she didn't like it. She wants to be named AJ. She also wants AJ's color of hair and she wants to be as big as he is. It's hard to explain to her that is impossible. She adores her big brother AJ.

Later, she also told me we should change Vanessa's name to Bob.

I guess the grass is always greener when it comes to names and hair color. When I was little, I wondered why I wasn't blonde and why my mom didn't name me Princess Diana. Now, Mia wants me to call her Angelica and wants black hair. Now I know what my mom felt 25 years ago!

Of course you should be named Princess Diana. You look just like her.

I always wanted to be a golden blonde, not a dirty dishwater blonde. (That's a real self esteem booster to have your hair color named after a household chore.) I also always wanted dark skin which explains why I would lay in the sun for hours as a teenager.

Let Mia know that eventually she can pay big bucks for black hair but, as for the name Angelica......

You are the sweetest person ever to give me a compliment like that. And I don't even want to know what household chore my hair color is named after!

I just had to tell you where Mia got the idea of black hair...a Pantene commercial!

In other words, I need to watch out for the shampoo commercials as well as the toy commercials. Thanks for the warning. If Savanah's watching TV and a Pantene commerical comes on I'll hurry to change the channel.
