Civil War
The fifth grade re-enacted the Civil War today, for a "last-day-of school" water balloon fight. Esteban was upset he was made to be a Yankee. (The first elementary school he attend was named after Robert E. Lee. He still considers himself a Texan and therefore, a confederate). He was happy to be named a Drill Sergent, so that made it better. He walked next to his regimen chanting "left-left-left-right-left".
The kids wore either blue or gray depending on which side they were on. They lined up for the major battles of the Civil War and threw water balloons at each other.
I know that war is a serious thing, but I had to laugh as I listened to the girls scream and watched the boys throwing as hard as they could.
Eventually, the south surrendered and the kids were sent out as scavengers to pick up the pieces of balloon off of the ground.
Taps was played and we all thought the war was over, but the kids had reserved a few balloons they used to bombard their teachers (again, it's the last day of school they can get away with it).
