This is the Place

Last week, as our summer vacation came to an end, the kids and I rode to Salt Lake with Aaron. He went to work while we went to play.
Our first stop was This is the Place Heritage Park. It is a re-creation of what Salt Lake City was like when the pioneers first arrived. My sister Monica was able to meet us there with her two kids.
First stop: the petting zoo. The kids liked the petting zoo complete with goats
and baby pigs.
They also enjoyed the pioneer playground. Ethan and AJ had a wild west shootout.
Vanessa was ready to go if a fire broke out in the village.Savanah ran the store while Milo did some grocery shopping. The kids were starting to complain about being hungry until we found the candy store. They enjoyed choosing which kind they wanted and each received their own sack of candy. There wasn't anymore complaining after that. Next time, I'll go to the candy store first.
Lastly, we rode on the train around the village. Monica, Holly, Savanah, and Milo enjoyed to ride.
This is the view of the Salt Lake Valley near the spot where Brigham Young declared, "This is the right place." There were very few trees at that time.We had a lot of fun. It would be nice to return someday without the kids when I can spend more time looking at the other sites like this house that belonged to Brigham Young. It was built near the experimental farm where pioneers would test the seeds they brought across the plains. They would bring them here to discover which seeds would grow and which would not. I find that much more interesting than the candy store. Although, those old fashioned wintergreen mints were pretty tasty.
