History

My sister and I took our kids to visit the Alamo in San Antonio. Let's just say, it was HUMID that day. Since my camera was in the air conditioned car, when I took it out to take pictures, this was the result:
Those of you who wear glasses know exactly what I'm talking about.
The Alamo stands not in memory of the war that was won. It reminds us of the war that was lost. After a 13-day siege all the defenders of the Alamo were killed. The Battle of the Alamo is a significant part of Texas history. A story of sacrifice and courage. William Travis, Jim Bowie, and David Crockett were among those who gave their lives in the battle.

Davy Crockett was a famous frontiersman and former US Congressmen from Tennessee. This is what he told his constituents after losing the election in Tennessee. It is now one of his most famous quotes and our new fridge magnet.
He died three months after arriving in Texas.

As you enter the Alamo there is a plaque on the door that reads:
Esteban loved our visit to the Alamo. He hasn't been there since he studied Texas history in elementary school. He had more of an appreciation for the monument than maybe the rest of us did.
We also admired all the plants and flowers. The grounds were beautiful with a big variety of vegetation.
It was a nice way to spend the morning together learning Texas history. Monica and I were happy that we actually survived driving in downtown San Antonio. It was a first for both of us.
