Beginning Orchestra Concert

Two weeks before school started Savanah decided she wanted to play the cello instead of the trombone. Ethan was already stressing at the thought of her practicing the trombone while he was home. Savanah decided there was more of a future in cello than the trombone. For instance, a cello can be played in church, a trombone cannot. I called the school and had her switched from band to orchestra.

Orchestra has been the one reason why she wanted to go back to school. She was so excited to play the cello. Her excitement for orchestra has helped off set the anxiety of entering middle school where she has to change classrooms and figure out how to open a locker.

Two and a half weeks after school started she had her first concert. Of course, the concert fell on the same night as one of AJ's football games. I was disappointed to miss his game but that is part of life in a big family.

I will say that it was quite nice that I had a front row seat and was in air conditioning. It was fun to see her in action as she played the few notes that she had learned so far.
At the end of the concert they had a parent go up on stage and each student "taught" them all about their instrument. I have never played a cello so it was kinda fun.
As you can see, I was still in my football gear. Yes, I missed AJ's game but this turned out to be a great chance to spend the evening with Savanah as she develops a new talent.
