It's Party Time!

The kids and I went to a birthday party today. Aaron was working and plus, he is the biggest party pooper ever. Birthday parties here are productions, not events. It's not the cake and ice cream affairs like up north. The party is for the entire family to attend. We are talking Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, friends, neighbors, and people from church. They do not do activities for the kids. The kids just play together. They don't seem to mind. This was a very small party. His mom apologized because she decided it would be better to give him a bigger gift than a bigger party. I tend to agree with her.

There is always food involved, a meal for the entire family. This party was at Peter Piper Pizza. Our friends, Ernie & Elena always have the best fajitas, beans, rice, and to die for potato salad at their birthday parties. My mouth waters just thinking about it. I always try to buy a nicer gift to take, since there are so many mouths to feed in our family. We pretty much are the party, with one invitation, they get 5 kids.

Parties here are not complete without a pinata. This is required. The kids load up on candy from the pinata and they also receive a candy bag when they leave. The Pinatas are life sized. This was a pirate party, therefore the pinata looked liked a pirate. He was bigger than most of the kids. Here is a picture of the kids gathered around it. His hook made Savanah nervous.

So, for one day the child is the center of the universe, with his entire family celebrating his special day. Everybody goes home stuffed full of food and candy. Then, when the child turns 15 (only if she is a girl), graduates from high school, or gets married they throw an even bigger party and all the aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, neighbors, and people from church go all out. That is a blog for another day. I tell you, these people know how to party, and I 'm glad I've been able to experience it, for it truly is an experience.

We are sad to miss your parties also. I'm very serious about your food being the best in the world.

Congratulations on selling your house, we know what a relief that is and the keeping it clean part on a daily basis all the way down to the closets, ya we won't even go there! We are excited to see you, let me know if the apartment doesn,t go through there are some houses for rent in our neighborhood. Natalie
