Back to School

The boys started school last week. They were pretty excited about going back to school. They think time goes by faster in school. On the first day, we left 1/2 hour early in order to fight the crowds since we have to find 3 classrooms and meet 3 teachers. When we arrived at the school there was nobody. The school was empty except for the teachers quietly in their classroom preparing for the day. We found their classrooms and met their teachers then they told that students are supposed to wait outside.

When we went outside they had four chairs per grade (one for each teacher) where the students were supposed to stand in line and wait. I found it disturbing that the 6th grade area was near the 2nd grade area. There is a big difference between a 12 year-old and a 7 year-old. There were still only a few students arriving. We found the area marked for each grade and I left them each alone standing next to a chair. They just moved 1800 miles from their friends and the school they are comfortable with and the only welcome they received was from a chair out in the middle of the playground.

After school was worse. The school just releases the students. There are kids going in every direction. In Texas, the school are terrified of the word "liability" and they at least make an attempt to protect and organize the students. Someone could snatch a kid so easily it's scary. I know we live in the middle of the Salt Lake Valley and their are a lot of good people here, but Elizabeth Smart lived here as well.

Anyway, it was a lonely, quiet day for me. When they are all home, it is chaos around here, but when they are gone I miss it. I'm happy I still have the girls. We watched Nick Jr, painted our toenails, and went shopping. By 12:00 Savanah was asking for if we could go get the boys. She was lonely without her brothers.

It has taken a few days for us to adjust to a new school, missing brothers, and a quiet house.

Well it'a a big change moving from Texas schools to any school. My kids don't really mind they got used to it, now it will probably be weird to them when we move back and they are so protected. So how do the boys like their new school?

The boys like their school because they get two recesses and two choices for lunch, and since these are the most important aspects of the day for them, they are happy. Although, I'm not impressed with the school's policies, I do like their teachers, which is the most important thing for me.
