Leaving Home

Esteban turned 12 years old last week. In our church, this means he is old enough to hold the Aaronic Priesthood. He was ordained to the office of a Deacon on Sunday.

Esteban is not only the oldest boy, but the oldest grandchild on both sides of the family. We spent 10 of his 12 years living 1800 miles away. Needless to say, all of our immediate family members came for the occasion except my brother Austin and his family (He had work issues. He's a cop.) It was neat to have the men on both sides of the family participate in the ordination. It was an incredible moment.

After that, we had everybody over to our house after church for dinner. I think it went well and Esteban seemed to enjoy this special day.

Earlier in the day, I was waiting for him to return to Primary after his class yet, he never came. I realized he's not coming back. He is moving on. As a mother, I feel like this is the beginning of the end. I know I still have a few years left but, time goes by so quickly. Before I know it, he will be leaving home.

That is the truth, they really grow fast before your eyes. When Micah turned 15 in Oct. I told him that when he was born it never crossed my mind that I would be wearing a "Band Parent" polo shirt. Only a few more years and he'll be leaving for college and then a mission. But I'll still have Jonah for a few years after that. How we need to treasure every single moment with them.

It is nice to have moments when we realize they are growing up. It helps keep things in perspective.
