Are we there yet?

Have you been wondering where we are? Well, we are on vacation in sunny south Texas. When I told a friend we were going on vacation she said, "You are going to Texas aren't you." I jokingly replied, "Is there anywhere else to vacation?"

The kids have done remarkably well on the trip. There is something down-right brutal about spending that much time in the car. All the DVDs I brought for the trip lasted long enough to get to the Texas border and that is not even the half way point. Vanessa was her usual backseat driver. Periodically she would yell, "Dad, you turned the wrong way!" We have driven the trek so many times I think you could put the car on auto pilot and we would arrive precisely on point.

Living out of hotel rooms also has it's moments. Vanessa loves the fact that all the kids are sleeping in one room. When it's time to go to bed she entertains them by talking and getting out of bed. The problem comes when the rest of the kids are really tired and they don't find her antics that entertaining. Last night she told me, "Someone can borrow my blue house, I don't need it anymore." I'm not ready to give up my own bed and an actual kitchen that easily so, by this time next week we will return to our blue house.

Wish you were here!

Next time I'll just bring you along. Trust me, after 26 hours in the car, I'm thinking even Aaron was tired of hearing my voice.
