Nine months ago my mother-in-law was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. The diagnosis came shortly after we moved to Texas. It has been hard being so far away as she has undergone surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. During the cancer screenings they discovered that she also a heart murmur due to a constricted heart valve. After the months of cancer treatment she would have to face open heart surgery. She asked me one day why I moved away when she needed me the most. I told her I didn't have answer other than the Lord told us to move to Texas. I assured her I would only be a short plane ride away.
I begged her to let me come help while she had chemo and again when she started radiation. She always told me to wait to come help when she had heart surgery. She was worried about Aaron's dad being alone while she was in the hospital.
This past Friday morning she woke up to use the restroom and collapsed. She was completely unresponsive. Her heart had simply given out. Two ambulance rides, three hospitals, and a helicopter ride later she was in University of Utah hospital. She went through three surgeries over the weekend and is still in Surgical ICU. It has been a long hard weekend for all of us.
I was able to catch a flight to Salt Lake with John & Suzie (who were visiting us for spring break) and we went straight to the hospital. It was a shock to see her hooked up to all the machines. There are tubes covering her body. She remains heavily sedated. I held her hand and told her that I came just like I said I would. I told her I would take care of Lynn so she could take care of herself and get better. A tear formed in her eye. As I wiped the tear from her eye I knew she knew I was there.
This will be where I will be hanging out for the next little while.
Now that I have more time on my hands I'll catch up on my blog. Since I don't have access to my photos and computer at home, I'll use the ones stored on my phone. This should be interesting......
