I thought Vanessa would be able to jog/walk for a mile. Nope. She refused. She wanted to ride in the stroller. The problem is the only stroller we have left is a cheap umbrella stroller. I tried to convince her to jog/walk with Savanah and I. She didn't budge until Aaron asked if she wanted to ride on his shoulders.
Together they were off to the races. Literally. As the race started, Vanessa was seen bobbling up and down above the crowd. Her hair, blowing in the wind. (I had ditched my camera by that point so there is no photo. The memory of it still makes me smile.) Aaron told me the hardest part was not being able to move his arms since his hands were holding Vanessa's ankles to keep her on his shoulders. Only a couple of times did he slow down to a walk. Vanessa kindly informed him, "Dad, you won't win if you don't run."
Turns out. She was right. In the end she won a blue ribbon for being the first one in her age group to finish the race. Aaron didn't get anything except some really sore legs the next day.
She is very proud of her ribbon and tells people she won 1st place in a 10 mile race. I think for Aaron it sure did feel like 10 miles.

That "excitement" radiating from all before the race is awesome! Were you the only one wanting to be there? 'Cause I saw a smile on YOUR face :) I think Aaron definitely deserves a ribbon--running with a child on your shoulders deserves at least that!
Hee-hee. As I've posted on my own blog.. Bo shared your families enthusiasm.
